Intel goes paperless, using Poken’s NFC “touch” for voting and data exchange at events
Intel’s IMEC 2012 event was all about numbers: By going paperless using NFC tags and pokens, Intel’s flyers and other documents were collected more than 62,000 times, and participants exchanged 28,000 business cards digitally – saving more than 8 trees (on average a tree generates 8,500 sheets of paper) and all the associated bleaching, printing, and transportation costs. Visitors also submitted more than 10,500 votes in surveys set up for instant feedback, by touching 232 tags.
Intel’s use of NFC, in conjunction with Poken’s content management platform, started at Mobile World Congress 2012.
Android developers, who accounted for a large portion of the more than 50’000 visitors, could collect content placed on tags, linking Intel’s various booths to other activities in Barcelona, such as Intel branded bus tours and life-sized Android characters circulating around the venue.
Held at the Anaheim Marriott from September 9-12, the Intel International Manufacturing Exellence Conference brought attendees from every country where Intel has manufacturing plants. Those attendees networked and attend top-secret seminars about Intel procedures and research.
Voting
Inside the seminar rooms, poster boards with five tags on each were set up, labled ”okay”, “good”, “very good”, “excellent” and “amazing”. Attendees were told to tap their Pokens on the star that best represented their opinion of the seminar. Attendees also voted via more than 70 Tags for their favorite exhibits.
The Tag voting system would yield more than 10,500 votes, far surpassing previous years’ totals of less than 1,000 votes, according to show organizers. Read more…

New Romanian Office to Help Drive Next Gen Poken Products
Located in the heart of historic Transylvania, in one of the most beautiful cities in Romania – Sibiu, a brand new Poken office has taken shape. As the objectives for Poken over the next 6-12 months are lofty (and growing larger every day it seems), we have decided it was time to add some new talent to the team; specifically in the areas of Engineering, Support and Logistics.
New members in the Sibiu office include Cristina (super energized Customer Support Specialist), Cristi (awesome Graphics & Web Designer) and Raul (highly efficient Logistics Engineer). These three have joined forces with the existing dynamo Engineering team from Sibiu comprised of Bogdan (Core/Platform Engineer), Teddy (Partner Tools Engineer) and Claudiu (UI/Front-end Engineer), in a brand new Poken office. This initial team of six people (with more on the way) is supporting Poken’s activity with enthusiasm, fresh ideas and hard work!
Poken Italian Style – the Angel and Devil Touch
Italy is known for many things, a rich history, fantastic food, vibrant nightlife, and an incredible sense of style. Therefore it is only in Italy that you might find a truly authentic melding of high fashion and high technology.
The Poken Reseller in Italy is E-Motion. And they have combined forces with one of the most popular fashion companies in Italy, called Angel and Devil, to create a unique Poken creation called the “Angel and Devil Touch”. The concept is one that frankly didn’t seem possible a few months ago, but it has launched recently to much fanfare.
Picture this: if you are young and hip, and you want to Social Network with your friends at the latest trendy nightclub, how would you do it? Well if you reading this blog, you would certainly guess correctly that you would use your poken to do it, but where to carry the device? Angel and Devil has come up with the concept of incorporating your poken directly into a special pocket … ON your jeans!! Yes that’s right, now you can wear your
poken on the outside! So rather than a High Four, its now a Hip Four!?
