Poken has been pioneering the use of NFC+ devices and mobile applications to create the world’s first “touch” based marketing platform – which it sees as the next frontier in the delivery of complete end-to-end customer experiences for events, promotions and tradeshows.
Our revolutionary marketing solutions have been recently recognized by the World Mobile Congress, where the Poken team won “Best Innovation in Mobile Advertising”, beating six other nominees, including Google Wallet and innovations by other big names from the mobile industry.
With increasing traction worldwide for our “touch” based marketing business model, along with a successful $2m fundraising, Poken has hired a new “growth stage” CEO, Sri Chilukuri, who will lead the company into the next phase of its development. A long-time Silicon Valley native, Sri spent 10 years at Adobe as a GM, then enjoyed stops at VA Linux, and Xerox before starting Content Circles, which was sold to Skype last June. Jeff Heywood, another Silicon Valley veteran, is also joining Poken as CFO.
Poken’s founder and current CEO, Stéphane Doutriaux, remains with the company as Chief Technology Officer and will head up Poken’s innovation centers in Product and Engineering.
Additionally, on April 1st, Poken will move its headquarters to Palo Alto, California. The new senior management team will help structure and accelerate growth in the US market, while addressing the needs of large industry partners, such as Standard Register Healthcare, Microsoft, Nokia and PWC.
Poken is proud to officially welcome Sri and Jeff. Their addition to the team marks the beginning of an exciting new phase for our business.
We would like to introduce you to the newest member of the Poken Team – Carole Putallaz!
Carole is taking on the Head of Marketing & Communication position as of Monday, January 3rd.
She will be in charge of Poken’s presence on the web and will be handling all Marketing actions (on and off line) to create awareness and interest in our products. Carole will be the new “voice of Poken” and will make sure that our company “sounds great”.
Carole’s background is quite impressive as she has over 9 years experience in international B2B Marketing and Communication in various industries, being comfortable with technical and fast moving environments like ours. She has in-depth understanding of Corporate Communication and PR strategies and will be a great asset to our company. We are confident that once Carole’s on board, Poken will know some serious popularity and therefore new sales opportunities.
Dear Poken community,
Christmas is just two days away, and we are turning our thoughts and high spirits to you, our awesome Poken community. We’ve had a lot of fun this year, accomplished a great deal, met some challenges and most importantly we’ve seen a significant growth for Poken products and services. It make us humble, and thankful towards you, our great user community. Your constant feedback, ideas and suggestions have been a true help in the improvement of all things Poken.
A vital and important part of this community is our resellers. We would like to thank all our worldwide resellers. You have been amazing to us — and to our users — and you have continuously shown extreme dedication and support.
This is also the time to begin looking forward to the coming year. And this we are! We are looking forward to the some of the exciting market opportunities that 2011 promises to bring. Many things converging. Can you feel it? The Poken team is entering the year with high hopes, enthusiasm and strong confidence that 2011 will be an even better year than 2010.
In the end, we would simply like to wish you (and yours) a great Holiday Season, a joyful Christmas and an outstanding New Year!
A very special Holiday High-four!
Located in the heart of historic Transylvania, in one of the most beautiful cities in Romania – Sibiu, a brand new Poken office has taken shape. As the objectives for Poken over the next 6-12 months are lofty (and growing larger every day it seems), we have decided it was time to add some new talent to the team; specifically in the areas of Engineering, Support and Logistics.
New members in the Sibiu office include Cristina (super energized Customer Support Specialist), Cristi (awesome Graphics & Web Designer) and Raul (highly efficient Logistics Engineer). These three have joined forces with the existing dynamo Engineering team from Sibiu comprised of Bogdan (Core/Platform Engineer), Teddy (Partner Tools Engineer) and Claudiu (UI/Front-end Engineer), in a brand new Poken office. This initial team of six people (with more on the way) is supporting Poken’s activity with enthusiasm, fresh ideas and hard work!
Italy is known for many things, a rich history, fantastic food, vibrant nightlife, and an incredible sense of style. Therefore it is only in Italy that you might find a truly authentic melding of high fashion and high technology.
The Poken Reseller in Italy is E-Motion. And they have combined forces with one of the most popular fashion companies in Italy, called Angel and Devil, to create a unique Poken creation called the “Angel and Devil Touch”. The concept is one that frankly didn’t seem possible a few months ago, but it has launched recently to much fanfare.
Picture this: if you are young and hip, and you want to Social Network with your friends at the latest trendy nightclub, how would you do it? Well if you reading this blog, you would certainly guess correctly that you would use your poken to do it, but where to carry the device? Angel and Devil has come up with the concept of incorporating your poken directly into a special pocket … ON your jeans!! Yes that’s right, now you can wear your
poken on the outside! So rather than a High Four, its now a Hip Four!?
There is a great deal of excitement around the office due to the latest addition to the Poken team!
We’d like to formally introduce Fabrice Allegro, Poken’s new Chief Commercialization Officer (CCO). Fabrice will be in charge of all things related to Marketing and Sales at Poken, and he brings a wealth of experience to the position. In addition, he is a fantastic positive presence in the Poken HQ!
Before joining Poken as CCO, Fabrice was working for nine years with Orange, a leading Swiss mobile operator. He was successively Head of Marketing Strategy, Director Consumer Marketing before becoming Vice President Marketing & Solutions and member of the Management Board of the company.
During this period, he was in charge of the company strategy, the brand, the product development, the communication and of segmented marketing for both B2B and B2C, driving to launches of “best-seller” propositions and innovations on the Swiss market, ensuring company growth and profitability.
Fabrice started his career in 1995 as International Account Manager with an aluminum company, responsible for multiple product lines in Europe and in charge of major French accounts. He also defined and implemented various processes for the international sales forces.
Fabrice owns a degree in Management from HEC Lausanne, and Master in International Management from HEC Lausanne and Babson College in Boston. He is married and the father of 2 children.
Many of you have met Fabrice already as he’s been involved in a consulting capacity for the past two months. Now he’s taken the plunge full-time. Welcome to the team Fabrice. High Four!
The 2010 TechCrunch Disrupt event in San Francisco features a virtual who’s who of the most innovative companies, and people in technology. Ranging from big companies (Google, Microsoft, Motorola), to VCs (Sequoia, USVP) and launching true startups (Qwiki, Badgeville, etc.) With an event motto of “Create. Destroy. Repeat.” the Disrupt event takes a particularly progressive viewpoint on how innovation is changing the way we live, work and play.
One of the smaller companies making a huge splash at the event was Poken. Sponsored by SecondMarket there were Pokens all around the TechCrunch Disrupt and we created quite a buzz! Many companies pay to gain that much attention, so we thank SecondMarket for the opportunity to promote Poken and their great investor services!
Denny Mayer, Head of US Sales, was at the event and can be seen on the picture summary shown here about 2/3 of the way down the page. According to Denny “we stole the show, and even though we were not one of the “Featured Startups” the Poken buzz was quickly created and we enrolled the entire registration team at TechCrunch into sending everyone over to pick up their Pokens…. it was awesome.”
Great work Denny and team! Thank you SecondMarket and TechCrunch!! Now its time to go forth, Create and Destroy. High Four!
Nominate Poken for a Crunchie Award! Ever heard of the Crunchies award? It’s ‘the Oscar for the technology world’, to cite the organizers. It is an annual competition and award ceremony co-hosted by TechCrunch, GigaOm and VentureBeat.
Hi denizens of the Pokenverse! Greetings and salutations as the spider once said (or wrote in her web).
It would be a bit of an understatement to point out that we’ve spiffed things up around here at poken.com. We’ve overhauled the marketing section of the site- new content, new pretty pictures, new fan interactions. Our goal was to make sure y’all knew Poken was about you. We want to rotate in and out new stories, photos, experiences and Poken fan fun, so please let us know about any of that stuff.
